Monday, September 25th, 2006. That’s the day I first set foot on a piece of virtual land inside Second Life. It was a time before sculpted prims, mesh, or advanced materials. Despite the simplicity and the limited possibilities compared to today, it was an incredible experience.
Armed with only simple prims, a vivid imagination, and the ability to piece together basic shapes, we were all still able to create what felt like amazing things at the time.
Then and now
Let’s begin with a little information about myself and what I do.
Eighteen years ago, when I started my Second Life journey, I was an aspiring graphic designer and web developer. While I still dabble in both of those fields now, I have since transitioned into Cyber Security, Privacy, and Regulatory Compliance. For the past eleven years, I have primarily worked professionally with Third-Party Risk Management.
I maintain several information security certifications and plan on expanding those in the coming years.
Why the blog?
I started this blog to share my thoughts and Second Life experiences within (and as it turns out, sometimes outside of) the virtual world.
I love exploring the technology behind Second Life, and I enjoy reviewing and analyzing the products and services created by fellow residents. You'll find a mix of posts here, from in-depth analyses and investigative pieces to personal opinions and casual observations. Whether it's a new feature, an innovative product, or digging deeper into the latest rumors and controversities, I aim to cover it.
My goal is to share what I find interesting and valuable in and out of the virtual world. Each post is an opportunity for me to delve deeper into the complexities of Second Life and hopefully connect with others along the way!
Find something you think I should cover?
Please let me know!
I’m always open to suggestions. Whether it’s a groundbreaking piece of technology, changes to Second Life, a new intriguing service offered in-world, something quirky and fun, or someone doing something that needs analysis and investigation, I’d love to hear about it.
Reach out to me in-world where I go by the name Tjay Wicken, or send me an email at [email protected]
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Second Life. Let's explore, learn, and grow together.
